Is HD up-conversion dvd player worth getting at this point in time?

I am looking to get a dvd player with HD up-conversion - Pioneer DV-400V-K for $70 U.S. (down from $120 a year ago)...just not ready to shell out $400 for a full HD Blu-Ray disc player yet...

I've witnessed the performance of the up-conversion, there were noticable amount of additional details being shown on the playback of a regular DVD movie, though just simulation...

Since I go through a good amount of dvd movies on a regular basis and I am thinking the HD up-conversion player would serve me well til the Blu ray disc player becomes more affordable in a couple years...

I am curious if others have any ideas on how does the HD up-conversion dvd player compare with Blu ray disc player which costs at least $400 per unit ?

Is up-conversion dvd player worth getting at this point in time?

Peace,

Coolio

here in the states their prices start at $35 in walmart, made by Magnavox (Phillips) which is still considered a brand name, at least to me :)

being somewhat a penny pincher myself, I still believe in spending a bit more for brand name electronics, my first dvd player is a Pioneer which i bought back in 1999, still up and running, though quite bulky in size...

yeah, i am aware of the up-conversion functionality would not work on s-video nor composite/rca cable....but I didn't know it also works with component cable?!...let me look into it...

currently my setup is a 5 years old Toshiba 30" CRT widescreen hdtv, and a pioneer progressive scan dvd player connected through component video cable.

and since my tv has dvi input, i plan to take advantage of it if i decided to go ahead getting the HD up-conversion dvd player, with a DVI to HDMI cable $20 - 30.

assuming hdmi/dvi has a larger bandwideth for data transfer than component video, since it's digital...
